Family & Friends
Michelle's Family David:
Since they were very young David, Michelle's younger brother, were mistaken for twins - ok, they were in a skating performance dressed up like seals and looked remarkably alike! 30 years later, and thousands of miles apart, like twins, when they see each other they finish each others sentences and retain similar values, interests and world views. David will be giving Michelle away only on the promise that Raahool will always take careful care of her. See his picture. You don't mess with Michelle's brother.
Nicole:
Also travelling from Alberta, Michelle is pleased to share this special day with her youngest and only sister Nicole and her two children, Veronica and Frasier.
Greg:
Michelle's older brother and wife Chantal hold a very special place in Michelle's life. Sharing this day with them will make the day complete.
Mom:
Michelle's mother passed away, October 2005, at the age of 56. Her spirit will be with Raahool and Michelle throughout the wedding celebrations.
Dad:
Michelle was (is) her daddy's little girl. He wouldn't miss this day for the world and will be travelling from Indonesia to attend.
Raahool's Family Raahool's Parents Ashok & Sheila:
Raahool's mother and father have been constant sources of love and support. They have been married for 43 years; from Bombay to London to Ottawa. They have raised two boys and cared for their parents in their old age.
They are active members of their spiritual community, as well as the Bengali and Gujarati communities in Ottawa. They spend a considerable portion of their retirement helping others and trying to steal as much time as possible with their children and grandchildren.
A self made businessman, Raahool's dad owned his own silk screen print shop (Navinarts) for many years serving the local high tech sector and Canada's largest manufacturer of white products. His work ethic and single-mindedness to provide for his family are traits which Raahool most admires and tries to emulate.
A singer at heart, Raahool's mum performs miracles in the kitchen, with only vegetables to work with! After tending to two boys at home and countless number of children (well engineers) in a 25 year career at Nortel, she continues to teach children basic human values. Her courage, perseverance and loving nature are the traits Raahool sought and found in Michelle.
Raahool's Grandmothers Ma & Ben:
Ma is Raahool's Bengali maternal grandmother and has lived with Raahool's parents since before he was born. She has been a second mother in many ways; telling him family stories when he was a child, making his lunches, and scolding him for having a messy room. While she has slowed down some now that she is in her 80s, she is still doggedly stubborn and stubbornly dogmatic. She is always ready to tell you a story and has the most active social life of anyone in the family.
Ben is Raahool's Gujarati paternal grandmother. She moved to Canada shortly after Raahool's grandfather passed away. While short in stature, she has raised a family of five children and has 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren spread across the globe from New Zealand to India to the United States and Canada.
Raahool's Sister-in-Law Lisa:
Lisa is Prashant's lovely wife and Rowan's loving mother. She is always a voice of reason, reassurance and understanding. She is the sister Raahool always wanted.
Raahool's Aunt (Masi) Nina:
Raahool's mother's sister has lived with the family since she moved to Ottawa in the early 1990s. She is very active in the community, terrific with children of all ages and adds wonderful balance and understanding to any conversation.
